Basque Pipérade With Chorizo & Duck Eggs

The best way to get yourself into a cooking mood is listening to the music from the same country you are paying your respects to... So here is one of my favourite French songs and dishes. Zaz - Eblouie par la nuit Video of Zaz - Eblouie par la nuit Basque Pipérade with Chorizo & Duck Eggs When it’s pouring with rain and you are stuck at home, with a blanket, a glass of red wine and the urge to eat something deeply comforting – this is the dish to go for! Maybe that's the reason I like living in London? Days like this are often and much appreciated, no need for an excuse to stay home,...

Salmon With Green Beans & Pesto

I have never been a big fan of seafood. There are only couple of types of fish I can manage to eat – one of them is salmon. Salmon has always had this reputation in my eyes as being the annoying Monday night healthy-not-so-yummy dinner. The day after the weekend, when you've promised yourself to start eating healthy again. As I'm on my 'Eating a wider range of things/Learning how to cook' experiment, I decided to take up the Salmon Challenge first. Inspired by Bianca's salmon with green beans (much improved, as she always says!). Don't worry, I'm not planning to send you 'sleeping with the...

My Love and Hate Relationship with Food

What I'm saying - I'm gonna go on a diet. What I'm thinking - I'm lying, I've never ever been on a diet, and I probably won't go on one in the near future either. What I'm saying - I love exercising. What I'm thinking - This reminds me of the other lie I just told... I haven't exercised for years. Not sure why I keep lying to myself - I love to eat a lot, a lot, and like 4 times a day at least. Also, I don't exercise. This kind of gives me the lost in limbo effect, with fitting into my clothes or being a happy chubby kid dilemma. People who knew me before moving to London are often shocked...

Travel - The Amalfi Coast (La Costiera Amalfitana)

The coastline of the Sorrentine Peninsular, known as the Amalfi Coast, is just south of Naples in the region of Campania, Italy. We recently visited this movie-inspiring backdrop with its lemon groves dating back to Roman times, and colourful hill towns overlooking the aquamarine Tyrrenhian sea. You can read about our bucket-list trip along this coastline, the wonderful places we stayed, the food we ate, and the limoncello of course! When I was about 12 years old I watched the movie Only You , with Marisa Tomei and Robert Downey Junior. I will never forget the scene where Marisa Tomei,...

The London Cocktail Club, Oxford Circus

One fine day, a while ago, we went with Luca to meet my Estonian friend Merilin. I decided that we should try something new and a bit different, but still stay in central. When I found this place on Design My Night, I was a bit worried that as it is located in Oxford Circus maybe it will be full of tourists and not so great - but oh was I wrong! [Yes, I am now officially a Londonite, complaining about the tourists ;)] The London Cocktail Club - http://www.londoncocktailclub.co.uk - where gangster's paradise meets cocktail heaven. First I walked past it a couple of times (I didn't do my...

Granada & Alhambra in Spain

granada
With the three years I lived in Spain plus all the travels before, I've been lucky enough to see all corners of Spain. First as a tourist, later as a local. I must say that I liked many small towns much more than the big cities like Barcelona, Madrid or Valencia. One of the places I really enjoyed visiting was Granada in Andalusia, South of Spain. You will discover later that this story is more about the Barcelo La Bobadilla hotel than Granada itself, because it was just so stunning I would even call it unbelievable ;) gran2.jpg Granada lies on the foot of the Sierra Nevada skiing mountains...

Spring Clean your Diet!

In my endeavour to be more creative and spruce up my healthy eating, I've decided to do a regular feature on Running in High Heels ( http://runninginhighheels.me/blog/ ) testing out new ideas and recipes. I'm sure there will be some successes, as well as some failures! So keep reading... Top 3 Recipes This Month: In honour of Spring, which for me is all about the colour green, I will be testing out a juice, a funked up salad and something spicy for dinner. Ay caramba. Spring-Green Juice (see what I did there?): Green smoothie.jpg The Green Godzilla! This is actually not a new introduction to...
