Our long overdue Pura Vida Playlist is all about the summertime and inspired by some of our favourite ways to spend it: sultry Ibizan nights dancing until dawn; lounging by the pool with a cocktail, what we like to call ‘Villa Vibes’; long evenings spent along the river with friends in London; and of course, festival season…
Here are some the hottest new tracks we’ve been listening to so far this summer…
Jamie xx ft. Romy - Loud Places
This was one of the tracks we played many a time by the pool in Ibiza. Equally suitable don't you think, for watching the sun set along the Thames or feel good vibes at a festival?
Rudimental ft. Anne-Marie and Will Heard - Rumour Mill
These guys. Breaking hits left right and centre. I was lucky to pay 12 squids a couple of years ago to see them perform at the Brixton Academy (and I think it is still to this day one of my favourite gigs) along with Ella Eyre, John Newman and MNEK all on one stage with the roof blowing off…increds. How to pick between Bloodstream, Never let You Go, and Rumour Mill? Not to mention we still love listening to their first album ‘Home’. I’m very excited to see what next for these four blokes from East London.
Mumford and Sons - Believe
I’ll admit it… I haven’t always been their biggest fan. Mostly due to a neighbour playing their first album at full blast on repeat for about a week after he went through a tough break-up. But this song... this song has brought them to me. Goosebumps.
Tinie Tempah ft. Jess Glynne - Not Letting Go
The ultimate feel-good summer tune (especially for Saturday's in the park).
Alessia Cara - Here
HNT - Hot New Talent. She is definitely on our ‘look out for’ list with that silky voice. And using a sample of Portishead’s Glorybox? It’s hard not to be a fan.
Throwback Track: Portishead - Glorybox
How could we not put this on our Pura Vida Playlist? Obviously.
Get Your Body Movin’ Track: Julio Bashmore - Holding On
We got to see Julio play along with Hector Couto & Dennis Ferrer (excited much?!) at the Defected in the House party at Amnesia in Ibiza. Picture a hot night with deep funky house baselines pulsing through the bodies of the people in the club. Get your dancing shoes on!
And finally, the DJ set we’re listening to: Mark Knight’s set at the We Are Fstvl Afterparty
(We also got to see the boss of Toolroom Records himself play in Ibiza. TOP).
We hope the Pura Vida Playlist brings you much phonic pleasure this summer!
